Dr. Daniel Jun is a Specialist Advisor — Biological Sciences, Human Factors & High-Reliability Operations with Toddington International Inc. (TII), bringing an interdisciplinary background spanning microbiology, biophysics, scientific research, air traffic control, aviation safety, and search and rescue. His combination of scientific expertise and operational experience provides a distinctive perspective on decision-making, risk, human performance, and safety in complex and high-consequence environments.
Daniel holds a Ph.D. in Microbiology and an Honours B.Sc. in Biophysics from the University of British Columbia. His academic and postdoctoral research has included microbiological systems, infectious-disease research, biological and electrochemical sensing technologies, and interdisciplinary projects involving health care, biotechnology, and applied research. He has contributed to numerous peer-reviewed scientific publications and has experience translating complex scientific concepts for researchers, students, collaborators, and external partners.
In parallel with his scientific career, Daniel has developed extensive experience in aviation and high-reliability operations. He is an Air Traffic Controller with NAV CANADA, where his work requires rapid information assessment, disciplined application of procedures, effective communication, situational awareness, and sound decision-making in a safety-critical environment. He has also contributed to pilot safety outreach and procedural improvement initiatives, including education addressing runway-incursion risks and aviation best practices.
Daniel brings significant teaching, mentoring, and facilitation experience to TII. His academic career included undergraduate teaching and supervision, while his aviation work has involved the development and delivery of safety presentations to operational audiences. His ability to communicate across scientific, technical, and practitioner communities is particularly valuable to multidisciplinary engagements where complex risks must be translated into practical understanding and action. His teaching background specifically included workshops emphasizing critical thinking, problem solving and interpretation of experimental data.
Daniel is also a long-standing aviation volunteer and serves as a Search Coordinator and Pilot with the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association (CASARA), in addition to volunteering as a pilot with Angel Flight of British Columbia. His combination of scientific depth, operational judgement, instructional capability, and public-service experience strengthens TII’s ability to assemble multidisciplinary teams for complex international capability-development, security, resilience, and risk-reduction initiatives.
