Blockchain technology, especially in the cryptocurrency space, has brought and continues to bring, rapid change and innovation to the fintech world. With the ability for cryptocurrency to be borderless, have rapid settlement, and be immutable, it presents opportunities for financial access for people all around the globe. However, with that innovation and access, illicit and malicious actors have also learned how to leverage cryptocurrency and blockchains for their purposes as well. Therefore, it is important for investigators in the private and public sectors to be able to understand and rapidly respond to both cryptocurrency incidents and illicit actions where it is being leveraged.

To do that, an investigator needs to understand fundamental information about cryptocurrency, blockchains, criminality in the space, and basic open-source tools with which to respond. Investigative professionals must also be able to have discussions and brainstorm on these complex topics in an informed and evidence-based way.

Cryptocurrency & Blockchain for Investigators will introduce cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology, along with important parts of the ecosystem, to investigative professionals. This course will also provide information on both well-known and less-known forms of cryptocurrency crime. Additionally, the course will show participants how to leverage free open-source tools to be able to do initial triaging and analytics on cryptocurrency in their cases, and will be introduced to the concepts around advanced blockchain analytics.
