Summary

A police officer, now retired after 25 years with the Calgary Police Service, Kathy brings almost three decades of investigative experience and security awareness to her position as Instructor with Toddington International.  In 2009, the Governor General of Canada invested Kathy with the Order of Merit of the Police Forces (M.O.M.), in recognition for her outstanding work in the area of cyber safety and cyber security.

Kathy has extensive experience developing and delivering cyber awareness and crime prevention programs to both public and private sector organizations worldwide.  Her areas of expertise include online fraud, the application of social engineering techniques, child online risk, social media, targeted intrusion, and privacy.

Kathy achieved a Master’s Degree with Merit in Security and Risk Management and is a Certified Protection Professional (CPP).  She has pursued extensive industry-standardized security related training and holds a General Management Certificate and Security Management Certificate from the University of Calgary.  For the past six years, Kathy has instructed Personnel Security and most recently Cybercrime Prevention at the University of Calgary.

Integrating her understanding of police work with her experience in public relations, Kathy has acted as an official police media spokesperson for over a decade.  She has considerable communication experience, is a published writer, and has been a guest speaker at hundreds of security and safety related events and conferences.  As a subject matter expert, she offers consulting services and customizes and delivers presentations for corporate audiences, for high-value target clients, for school groups, and for law enforcement agencies through her personal company KathyMacdonald.ca.

Kathy has been a long-standing volunteer in Calgary on the Board’s of several security and crime prevention community-based organizations.  As a police officer and while serving on the Board’s of ASIS International Chapter #162 and Security Professional Information Exchange, Kathy introduced to law enforcement officers, special agencies, frontline security investigators, and critical incident managers, the incredible advantage of learning open-source investigation techniques from Toddington International.
